As Earthquakes Shatter Puerto Rico...

Photo provided by Lillian Garcia

On January 6, the island of Puerto Rico was struck by an earthquake of 5.8 magnitude. Immediately, the following morning, another 6.4 earthquake caused damages throughout the island. The temblors were centered in the southern coast affecting municipalities such as Guanica, Yauco, Guayanilla and Ponce, among others. The devastation was catastrophic enough to displace some families from their homes, since infrastructure was severely damaged. Puerto Ricans are still affected from the aftermath of Hurricane Maria and many are now sleeping outside their homes in fear of another catastrophic earthquake. Some citizens are again without water, electricity and a place to call home. As we face what's ahead and prepare a plan of action to help our communities in Puerto Rico we are asking for your help. Arte al Rescate is preparing to extend help to those affected by the earthquakes.

You can help by making a monetary donation via our website (click on the donation button), becoming a sponsor or purchasing a piece of artwork. To purchase art visit our website or take a trip to Blick Art in Lincoln Park. Blick Art is showcasing our current exhibit "Sowing Seeds, Harvesting Dreams" (children's exhibit) until January 25.

We will keep you up to date with developments.
